Try the Specialty Coffee at Lavanda

Try the Specialty Coffee at Lavanda

By Fernanda Noriega

If you are a coffee lover and are looking for a quiet place where you can also have a delicious breakfast, Lavanda is ideal. Their specialty is coffee and they have been located on Hernández Macías for more than eight years. They bring the coffee from different states such as Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, and Nayarit, among others. However, Lavanda is the only coffee roaster in San Miguel de Allende.

You can take it home to prepare it to your liking or enjoy it at the café in any of the ways it is prepared: washed, filtered, or espresso. “It is the freshest coffee you can find,” says Karla Barrera, who is in charge of receiving the product. She starts out with green coffee, extracts the seeds from the fruits and roasts them every week.

On the menu, each coffee lists the name of its producer and what state it is from, since they are the main elements in the production chain. Care of the soil and the plants are what produces a unique flavor, and it is more important than the preparation method. If someone wants to know who made their coffee, ask for a Gerardo Vázquez (Nayarit) if it will be with milk; or ask for Enrique López (Oaxaca) for an espresso.

Lavanda also offers some coffee by-products. One of these is the “red cherry” made from the pulp that is separated from the seeds. It’s a delicious tea that contains no caffeine. Here you can also have a good breakfast with which to accompany your coffee, not the other way around! Among the dishes that stand out are “the casserole” and the poached eggs.

Lavanda is located on Hernández Macías 87. It is pet friendly and they are open from 8:30am-2:30pm. They also have an additional store on Loreto 48A which is open from 8:30am-6pm, but here they only have coffee to go
