The “Free Books” Program Begins in Neighborhoods and Communities

The municipal government’s Department of Culture and Traditions inaugurated the first station of the program “Libros Libres” (“Free Books”) in Colonia Guadalupe.

The “Libros Libres” station will be available to the public as a space where San Miguel residents can leave a book and take another, encouraging the habit of reading for free.

The station in Colonia Guadalupe is the first of 10 contemplated for the initial stage of the program which will be implemented in different neighborhoods and communities. Attendees to the inaugural event were Mayor Luis Alberto Villarreal, the president of the Colonia Guadalupe, María de Luz Tovar, the director of Culture and Traditions, Paulina Cadena, and the operations manager of the San Miguel Public Library, Viridiana Gutiérrez.

The president of Colonia Guadalupe, María de Luz Tovar, thanked Mayor Luis Alberto Villareal and Paulina Cadena for the opportunity to be the first station of the program and also promised to take care of the station.

Mayor Villarreal said, “I am very excited to see how [this is being organized]. The truth is that Colonia Guadalupe is unstoppable. I say that San Miguel de Allende is a book on a lectern and for almost 500 years, everyone who has passed through here and lived here, has added their appreciation and their hearts, words of love that are writing the history of San Miguel.”
