Two weeks ago around 25 people were forced to leave a private party in the inner court of the Plaza de Toros—the San Miguel bullring. At approximately midnight an anonymous 911 call alerted Public Security and they found a family of 25 people who had rented a house in the interior area of the bullring for a stay in the city. Members of Civil Protection also reported instances of cock fighting and disregard for health measures.
When the authorities attempted to enter into a dialogue with the event participants, they responded with verbal attacks and threats of violence. The members of Civil Protection decided to leave the place to avoid a major conflict that could have become violent. The authorities returned and closed down the bullring by order of the municipal government. The reason cited was disregard for the health norms established by the Health Department. The bullring is located within the Zona Centro, the most touristic area in the city. Since it is near the Parroquia and the Jardín Principal, the plaza was a popular place for lodging, private events, and food.
