28 Minutes with Daniela Castro

I wake up at 6am to feed my baby. Then I get my things ready before taking my bath. Getting things prepared in advance makes me ready to start my day. I prepare a coffee so I can start giving my online communication classes at the Instituto Sanmiguelense. I teach high school and university students in five different subject areas, so I do have to prepare a bit. I have been working from home with my 7-month-old baby for almost a year now. I really like to cook so this allows me to have food ready for the family—my husband, my baby, and me. What I like to cook the most is Mexican, traditional “ranch food.” The pandemic taught me that cooking relaxes me. So I take advantage of this and invest some of my time making cookies and food for my husband. When I have the opportunity to eat out I love Oko in Plaza La Alhóndiga, I love to order a pho ga soup or burritos with ginger lemonade. Otherwise, I really like to eat Italian food at Mama Mía or at La Grotta. During the day, in addition to my classes, I am alert to any hot news, or lifestyle news so I can then program a podcast. I can’t go out for interviews a lot but I am aware of all the events. The podcasts can be found on spotify or on the website www.28minutos.com.

On my perfect afternoons I really like to talk with my husband about the news since he is also a reporter. We schedule interviews, review photographs and when we have the opportunity we go out to visit his family in Dolores Hidalgo. We visit Da Mónica, an Italian food place where I regularly order ravioli with red wine. I really enjoy going out to buy corn, garbanzos, and some other things at the market or from stalls where people sell vegetables. In the evening we enjoy visiting the Manantial or trying new places that have opened like Baradero for a mezcal cocktail. Another good option is to spend the evening at home watching movies that we both like, and ordering food like hamburgers and garnachitas (traditional fried foods). Through my media I not only seek to report hot news, I also seek to inform society and find the best in people so that others can see it.
