Eight Thousand Sanmiguelenses Will Be Warm This Winter

Beyond receiving food donations, inhabitants of urban and rural areas of San Miguel will have warm cover during the cold season. Amigos al Cien, directed by Myrna Montes, is a social organization that emerged with the health contingency. The group’s objective is to take food donations to people who lost their jobs and are having a hard time. From March to the present, more than 35,000 food donations have been delivered to areas throughout the city. Once the economy began to reactivate, according to Guadalupe Álvarez, a wedding planner and member of Amigos, people who had recovered their jobs were forthright and told the organization to discontinue the support so other families could benefit from the assistance. Food is delivered every 15 days.

Amigos created a registry of recipients and knows who might need a blanket or warm garment for the winter. With the support of donors, the San Miguel Community Foundation, and the Fire Department, the organization has distributed 8,000 blankets. It has also distributed toys and other items that have surely made a difference for many families.

If you wish to make a donation of clothing, food, or other items that benefit the most vulnerable, it will be gladly accepted. Clothing must be in good condition. You can deliver items to the Arcoiris Room at Infonavit La Luz in Colonia La Luz on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-2pm. If you want to make a specific economic donation, you can do so via PayPal at www.paypal.me/AmigosalCien?locale.x=en_US.
