On September 1 the Secretariat of Finance, Investment and Administration of the state of Guanajuato informed the start of the process of exchanging the car plates in the state, the process will be free and will be available until December 31 of this year.
The project plans the exchange of plates, as well as the exchange of circulation cards for vehicles registered in the vehicle registry of the entity, both exchanges will be made free of charge.
The government of the state of Guanajuato emphasizes that the new plates will have greater security elements, will be made of a more durable material, both the metal plate and the circulation card will be linked through a unique QR code, in addition, they will contribute to the public safety by equalizing the information of the vehicle registry.
Requirements:
- The vehicle must be registered under the name of the person who will carry out the procedure,
- Have official photo identification,
- Proof of residence no more than 4 months old,
- Provide the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP),
- The vehicle must be current in the payment of its contributions including infractions,
- Do not submit a theft report
- Return metal plates (front and rear) and the circulation card
You must register on the Guanajuato government paperwork page (app-sfia-tramites.guanjuato.gob.mx), then schedule an appointment that, depending on the termination number, will be assigned in the corresponding month.

After registration, the required documentation must be sent through the platform, it can be a photo or scanned. The user will receive a registered email that specifies the place, day and time selected, it is necessary to have the original documentation, plates and circulation card to exchange.
As safety and hygiene measures due to the pandemic, the use of face masks at the exchange points is mandatory, in addition to taking the temperature and the use of antibacterial gel, in addition to the use of “healthy distance” within the property.
In San Miguel de Allende, the exchange point will be at the “Las Brisas” shopping plaza located in the José Manuel Zavala bypass, local 18 on the upper floor, with an opening hours from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
