San Miguel, Best City in The World; Again

Also, the World Heritage City was recognized by the readers of Travel and Leisure as “The Best City in Mexico” to visit-the announcement was made on September 8.

Quickly, social representatives have spoken about the work that they say is not only of public administrations, but also of every San Miguel resident-professionals, and tourism service providers.

The Governor of the state, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, in a video congratulation indicated “your hospitality and kindness is undoubtedly the reason why you continue to be a favorite destination. I congratulate all the tourism service providers who have made this possible, this is a recognition of their hard work. Thanks to the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine for their vote, it fills us with great pride!”

Meanwhile, municipal president Gonzalo González expressed “this is the third time that San Miguel de Allende has conquered the number 1 position in the T + L World’s Best Awards; each time has been very special for us, but this year, the award has special importance since it shows the love that our visitors feel for the city and the pleasant memory they have of our inhabitants. Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards is a leading barometer for tourism destinations and businesses that cater to some of the world’s most passionate, knowledgeable, and discerning travelers, and we want them to know that San Miguel de Allende is ready and welcoming to all visitors, with international protocols in place to ensure the health and well-being of all.”

One of the reasons why “The Heart of Mexico” remains year after year among the favorite destinations among the readers of publications such as Travel + Leisure, is its continuous relationship with the arts and the constant updating of travel offers and experiences that it offers to visitors.

San Miguel de Allende is a city that offers a spring-like climate all year round. With one of the most famous sunsets in the world, it is popular among Mexicans and foreigners alike, especially American expatriates who have found their home in this destination. After years of functioning as an important part of the textile industry in the Bajío region, traces of this activity can still be found at the Fábrica La Aurora, where some historic machines are on display. La Aurora now houses art studios, jewelry and design stores, antique stores, a couple of restaurants/cafeterias, and about 50 galleries.

One of the most popular pieces of art in San Miguel de Allende are the mojigangas – giant puppets – which participate in all of the city’s celebrations and have become commonplace at local weddings.
