Book Crossing

Book Crossing

By Viridiana Gutierrez

Siembra de Libros (Book Crossing) is a project that seeks, through the donation of books, to be able to leave and find books in public spaces where everyone has the possibility of accessing them; to be found by young and old readers, so that they enjoy new adventures to read. This project seeks to contribute to awakening the interest in accessing other possible worlds by promoting the habit of reading. It encourages reading, and also develops socialization, creativity, and participation in a framework of respect and solidarity. It is an invitation to sow the world we want to reap, uniting the community through reading as a collective activity.

On April 23 the world commemorates International Book Day and the Pro-Reading Alliance of San Miguel de Allende celebrates it with the second “Siembra de Libros 2021.”

We need the help of all Sanmiguelenses who like to read and want to encourage this habit in their children and family so we can exceed our goal of donated books this year.

Help us by donating books in good condition, new or used, in Spanish for all ages. Reference books are not useful to us, nor are SEP books, dictionaries, or encyclopedias. Our goal is to collect lots of books to give away in San Miguel on International Book Day!

Starting today you can take your books to our collection center located in the Public Library of San Miguel at Insurgentes 25, from Monday to Friday, 10am-5pm and Saturdays from 10am-2pm. We will be receiving books until April 12, 2021.

The Pro Reading SMA Alliance is made up of civil and public associations such as the Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromante Municipal Public Library, the San Miguel de Allende Public Library, AC, the San Miguel Literary Room, AC, the Don Diego Community Foundation, AC, the Rosario Castellanos Library of CASA, AC, San Miguel Libros para Todos, and all Sanmiguelenses who love books and reading.

Read it, enjoy it and share it.
