Floyd and Bob—Survivors

Floyd and Bob—Survivors

By Jayn Corral

Finally 2020 is in the past, a COVID-19 vaccine and hope are in the present, and happiness and health can be part of the future. In typical San Miguel fashion, the warm afternoons are preceded by and ended with frigid weather. Homeless animals, just like homeless people, search to find warmth, food, and a comfortable place to land.

Early this year, Floyd searched for a warm spot and found it on the motor of a vehicle. Fortunately, the owner of the vehicle heard his cries and rescued him from sure danger and brought him to the SPA. We call him “Floyd, the mechanic.” He is a sweet, sweet four-month-old tabby-and-white boy. He loves to be held and to eat. He must have had a difficult time finding enough food. It would mean the world to him to have a loving family and a warm home.

Last year, Bob was a homeless two-year-old, all black, beautiful cat with gold eyes and an old soul, fending for himself by searching for food and shelter in the arroyo. He, too, must have suffered from the cold and lack of food. Since he has been at the SPA, he has decided that a life with shelter, love, and food is a good thing. He is independent and lets the other cats know that he is boss. This wonderful cat deserves to experience a life with a forever family and a loving home.

The SPA has been able to remain open during the pandemic because of the stringent protocols we put into place to keep everyone safe and healthy. We thank you all for respecting that, and we look forward to opening our doors to new volunteers and visitors as soon as it is safe to do so.

Because we have been so cautious, our onsite clinic remains open. Please help support the SPA by bringing your canine and feline family members to get care from our great veterinarian, Dr. Omar Córdova. We offer lower-cost services and special prices and hours on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Call 415 152 6124 for more information or for an appointment.

If you are thinking about adopting, please consider a SPA animal. Our available cats and dogs are on our website www.spasanmiguel.org/ on the “Adopt Me” pages. For both, our adoption fee is only 600 pesos and includes all current vaccinations, deworming, and sterilization (and more). Each animal that is adopted not only becomes part of a family, but also creates space at the SPA for us to help another animal in need of shelter, food, care, and love.
