Casa Michoacana is an art gallery with jewelry, ceramics, and painting among other things. It brings the best quality and designs in popular art from different regions of the country, and Michoacán is one of the most representative regions. They now have the honor and pleasure of inviting you to the great world premiere of the painter and printmaker, Nicolás de Jesús. His 2020 work is entitled “We Cannot Breathe” and will be exhibited at the facilities of the San Miguel Collection at Calzada de la Aurora 28, in San Miguel de Allende. The exhibition has been open to the public from Oct. 30 and will be dismantled on Dec. 28.
Nicolás de Jesus is a Mexican artist from the Nahua region of Guerrero, Mexico. His work represents many issues of Mexican rural life, politics and world events. The Day of the Dead celebration is a common theme in his art. De Jesús creates work in traditional mediums such as engraving and acrylic painting, but his message could not be more current. When artwork is honest, it’s an internal reflection of both the artist and his time. And we can precisely see the transformation of the artist in his book; the improvement in his techniques as well as the evolution of his ideas. In a section of the autobiography he tells us, “If a stroke is not made with conviction, it is better not to make it.” If there is something evident in de Jesus’ strokes, it’s conviction.
