“People don’t get how fabulous these online events are. There’s no straining to hear from the back rows. You are totally intimate and personal with these famous authors! It’s the most star-studded lineup of programs the Writers’ Conference has ever pulled together!” This, according to a fan of the new online format of the Writers’ Conference.
Four “Stars” Together on a Panel
December 13 is a “star-studded” day for the literary world. At 2pm, the San Miguel Conference is presenting a forum of writers whose books have become movies, including Emma Donoghue (Room); Diana Gabaldon (Outlander); A’Lelia Bundles (Self Made); and Maria Agui Carter (Rebel). It’s a chance to get to know these authors in an intimate, personal setting: your own Zoom screen. Both Diana Gabaldon and Emma Donoghue will later be presenting full-evening events of their own in the Literary Season Online. A’Lelia Bundles already presented a stunning talk, available on the Writers’ Conference website as a recording.
Geraldine Brooks and Lawrence Wright
On Dec 13 at 6pm, don’t miss this conversation between two Pulitzer Prize winning authors, Geraldine Brooks and Lawrence Wright. Both of these authors have “star-studded” careers as writers, both have spent time in the Middle East, and both have written novels about pandemics.
Geraldine Brooks won the Pulitzer Prize for her remarkable novel, March. She has a long career as an award-winning journalist, and has written four other novels and three nonfiction books. In her long career as a journalist for The Wall Street Journal, she covered crises in the Middle East, Africa, and the Balkans.
Lawrence Wright’s new novel about a pandemic, The End of October, is “a maniacal page-turner, a sweeping, authoritative, and genuinely intelligent thriller that reads as if it’s been shot out of a cannon,” according to The New York Times. Wright may be best known for his widely acclaimed book The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11, which won many awards including the Pulitzer Prize, and was made into a series for Hulu.
Opportunity to Meet the Authors
A feature unique to San Miguel literary events is that we give you the opportunity to “go up on stage” after the presentation for a personal chat with the authors. Attendees have raved about these personal, informal chats. See how this Zoom event works! It’s great fun.
New Keynote Package and Holiday Sale
We are excited to announce a valuable new Keynote Package: All 13 “star-studded” keynote events, a US$345 value for only US$180, including recordings of events that have already occurred. Also, our Holiday Sale offers three writing skills workshops for the price of two, available until Dec 25.
