Art Pays Tribute to Women

Art Pays Tribute to Women

“Mis Chiquitinas” is an art exhibit by Wendy Ramirez, a 26-year-old artist from León, showing 15 oil paintings that pay homage to women.

The idea was born from the fact that we currently live in a world where there is a lot of talk about the power and roles that women have and deserve within society. However, in the daily search for this recognition, the most vulnerable and neglected women are often isolated and forgotten. We keep forgetting that there are still women who do not have access to education whether public or private, women who do not become lawyers, secretaries, or engineers, who do not have more than 10,000 followers on Instagram or Twitter, and who are very far from knowing that women’s freedom is today’s right.

We see those same women sitting in the markets every Monday selling their fruit; we see them at street lights with shawls and their bouquets of flowers. There are those we don’t even notice, but who are right now caring for people living close to us. These are women who make others happy because they are the same ones who have time to watch sunrises, count stars, and put their dreams into their day—women who have the capacity inside to create an entire universe, the womb through which everything comes to life—women like you and me.

That feminine consciousness is the energy that embodies the wisdom that we need at this time; it is the feminine power that we should be so proud of and this exhibit is the perfect reason to pay tribute to it. Ramirez believes that artists as creative people, going beyond the immense satisfaction that the whole creative process brings them, have the commitment and duty to question all their social and cultural environments since art should also be considered parallel to human evolution in its reasoning. Through their work, they can transcend and give voice to all those situations for which our country is divided as well as to all those for which we feel most proud. That polarity is the basis of inspiration in creating this collection.
