COVID-19 Health Experts or Disease Experts?

COVID-19 Health Experts or Disease Experts?

By Michael J. Dorfman

According to the World Health Organization (WHO): “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (physical or mental weakness).”

When a health expert speaks to us about the COVID-19 pandemic, we should expect not only gloomy statistics that cause fear and anxiety, but also his “expertise” and recommendations on how to be healthy and how to strengthen our immune system so we can be prepared to confront the effects of the virus.

It would be wonderful to hear that information from government leaders and health officials because that would reveal to us their knowledge as well as their interest in our health and wellbeing. Yes, we’re being constantly told that we must stay home, maintain social distancing, wash our hands, wear masks, etc., but it doesn’t take an expert to constantly remind me of these things. What I want from health officials is to give me some valuable advice that I can use at this time. Since we’re confined to our homes, for who knows how long, there will never be a better opportunity to learn about personal health and to put that learning into practice.

So, the question is, why aren’t these so-called health “experts” providing us with the necessary information and guidance, so that once the lockdowns are lifted and restrictions eased, each one of us can count on a stronger immune system and improved health? That certainly would go a long way towards protecting us from getting serious complications and avoiding a relapse if we do happen to get infected. The explanation may be quite simple. The main tools that doctors have at their disposal during “normal” times are pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines, surgery, chemo, and radiation. Unfortunately, at this time, they are of no use against COVID-19. There are now no approved drugs or vaccines they can prescribe. Because their medical education lacked courses in plant-based nutrition and its role in disease prevention and reversal, their options are limited. They are in a very precarious position. They are like soldiers without weapons facing a heavily armed and advancing enemy. What can they do?

What change needs to happen?

Representatives of all branches of government must begin to work together and accept the knowledge and experience of medical doctors, nutritionists, and health care professionals who are experts trained in plant-based nutrition and beneficial lifestyle habits. Then, this vital information can be shared with the public. People need to know about the power of whole plant-based foods and certain lifestyle choices that will not only strengthen the immune system, but even help to reverse the chronic diseases that are linked to severe COVID-19 symptoms and death.

Fortunately, we don’t have to wait for this to happen. We have the power of choice to make these changes now.
