Rotary Responds to COVID-19
By Skip Essick
The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is responding to the COVID-19 crisis in San Miguel. Members of the club’s board voted to allocate US$2000 to provide needed services to those most in need in the greater San Miguel municipality. Club President Gary Peterson says club members will continue to provide financial assistance during the crisis and members of the community are encouraged to join us in the important fundraising initiative. The money raised will go directly to “Corazones Unidos San Miguel de Allende.” To donate, just go to hipgive.org/project/corazones-unidos-san-miguel-de-allende/.
With mandatory shelter in place orders, the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende has announced that all of its meetings will be on videoconference via the online application Zoom. Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community. One of the advantages of using videoconference technology is greater access to guest speakers as well as participation from members that are only in San Miguel part of the year.
While residents continue to self-isolate within the safety and comfort of their homes, members of the public are welcome to attend our meetings by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and the Rotary secretary will send the link information.
This coming Tuesday, April 21, we are pleased to welcome Glenn Wilson of SMAFAQ.
SMAFAQ.com was originally named and started with the intent to provide useful information (answers to Frequently Asked Questions) about San Miguel. The site has since evolved covering daily news in the area, including important up-to-date information about the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact in San Miguel. SMAFAQ even includes tips on how to buy your groceries online.
Professionally, Glenn has an extensive computer background that includes designing and creating commercial software products and mobile applications for iOS and Android.
The Midday Club of San Miguel de Allende meets Tuesday at 9:30am online. To be a part of this week’s meeting, just sign up at www.rotarysmamidday.org.
