Closing the winter concerts of the XXVI International Jazz and Blues Festival will be Sébastien Giniaux and Joris Visquesnel, directly from France, playing Gypsy Jazz. French guitarist Sébastien Giniaux is one of the most renowned guitar players from the new generation of musicians inspired by Django Reinhardt. Born in 1981, he is also a cellist, painter, and composer, and he plays with many different bands, in many different musical genres: jazz, Gypsy jazz, Balkan music, music from West Africa, and more. Sébastien is a very open-minded musician. He has toured the globe with many of the world’s greatest artists, such as Biréli Lagrène, Taraf de Haïdouks, Cherif Soumano, Richard Galliano, and Didier Lockwood.

“Sébastien Giniaux is one of the greatest young guitarists in this style in Paris and, therefore, probably one of the best in the world. I’d be hard-pressed to think of any world-class guitarist of any style who wouldn’t be blown away by his virtuosic technique and endless improvisational ideas.”–Mission Mission

Beginning in the 2000s he worked as a musician, composer, and arranger with several jazz, folk, and world music formations such as Norig, Selmer # 607 (including Rocky Gresset, Adrien Moignard), Balkan Project, Taraf de Haïdouks (album Maškaradă, 2007), Caravan Palace (album of the same name in 2008), and with the singers Teofilo Chantre (MeStissage, 2011) and Irina Björklund (La vie est une fête, 2014). Since 2017, he has led a sextet entitled Mélodie des Choses, with Joris Viquesnel (guitar), Jérémie Arranger (double bass), Mathias Levy (violin), Chérif Soumano (kora) and Mihaï Trestian (cymbalum). He also worked as a cellist with guitarist David Reinhardt, grandson of Django Reinhardt (The Way of Heart, 2008) and singer Lemmy Constantine (In Difference, 2009).
