Featuring Gustavo Pérez
Mexico’s Leading Ceramic Artist
Sat and Sun, Feb 22 and 23, noon-5pm
Directions to the gallery on our website.
If Mexico designated “National Living Treasures,” as Japan does, Gustavo Pérez would surely be at the top of the list. He stands alone as the only Mexican ceramic artist who is internationally celebrated and admired. His work is exhibited in fine galleries in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City (including the Franz Mayer, the Museum of Modern Art, and Bellas Artes), and San Miguel de Allende.
We have an extraordinary opportunity, right here in San Miguel, to view a rich and varied selection of his highly sought-after ceramic works. The exhibition presents over 50 vessels and sculptures by Pérez, one of the largest collections of his work that has ever been exhibited for sale, and includes a large body of his recent works. The show will remain up through March, and, except for this opening, the gallery is open by appointment.
Folk Art and Photographs
Galería Atotonilco is widely considered to be the finest exhibition space and vender of Mexican Popular Arts in the entire country, and is Trip Advisor’s number one feature on the list of “things to do” in San Miguel. You will see works by the country’s finest wood carvers, traditional ceramicists, paper-maché artists, lacquer workers, copper artists, and more. The collection includes a wide variety of textiles. The gallery has a wonderful collection of photographs of San Miguel in the 30s, 40s, and 50s that are a delight to see.
Everyone is invited to this Open House, which will include refreshments, Saturday and Sunday, February 22 and 23, from noon to 5pm both days. Directions to the gallery, located five miles north of town in a lush country setting, are on our website: galeriaatotonilco.com.
